Requirements

Phone Calls

All standard quality phone calls on the Nextiva network require 100kbps (0.1Mbps) upload & 100kbps (0.1Mbps) bandwidth per simultaneous call. For example, 4 Inbound calls and 5 Outbound calls all occurring at the same time would require 900Kbps (0.9Mbps) Upload and 900Kbps (0.9 Mbps) bandwidth. Nextiva also requires 0% packet loss and less than 20ms of jitter.

High-definition calls, currently for calls to other Nextiva customers, require 300kbps (0.3Mbps) upload & 300kbps (0.3Mbps) bandwidth per simultaneous call, three times the bandwidth of a standard call.

Video Calls and Screen Sharing using NextivaONE

Video Calling

Video calling within NextivaONE will adapt based on network conditions.  Below is the maximum bandwidth used during video calls

  • 1:1 Video Call - 650 kbps upload and download
  • HD Video Call - 1400 kbps upload and download
  • 3-4 people Video Call - 450 kbps upload and 400 kbps download per the number of participants minus 1 (i.e. a 4 person video meeting would require 400*(4-1) or 1200 kbps download bandwidth and 450 kbps upload bandwidth)
  • 5-16 people Video Call - 184 kbps upload and 134 kbps download per the number of participants minus 1 (i.e. a 6 person video meeting would require 134*(6-1) or 670 kbps download bandwidth and 184 kbps upload bandwidth)

Screen Sharing

Screen sharing during a meeting requires the presenter to have 1200 kbps upload and those viewing to have 1200 kbps download for high quality.  If the network does not have that much available bandwidth this will adapt down to 320 kbps.

Tools for testing

You can determine a the bandwidth availability on a network by visiting one of these sites:

Note: If there isn't sufficient bandwidth on the network to handle the number of calls with other internet traffic for a business, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will need to be contacted to increase the allocated bandwidth.
