How to perform a ping test

Running a ping test from command prompt or terminal is a great way to check your network for latency or jitter, both can lead to audio quality issues.  See our Networking Guidelines for the targets for jitter and latency.

Click on the operating system you use to jump to that seciton.


Windows

  1. Press Windows Key + R.
     
  2. Type cmd.exe and press enter.
     
  3. Type the command ping [ipaddress] -t and press enter.

  4. After the test has run sufficiently, press ctrl+c to stop the test.

  5. The results of the test will be displayed at the end.
     

MacOS

  1. Click the Magnifying Glass icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

  2. Type Terminal into the search box and press Enter.

  3. Type ping [ipaddress] and press enter.

  4. After letting the test run for a few minutes press ctrl+c to stop the test.
     
  5. The results from the test will be displayed.
